WHAT DO YOU THINK OF CHRIST?

Matthew chapter 22 verses 41 through 46:

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

Mark chapter 12 verses 35 through 37:

And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself calleth him Lord, and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.

Overview: This text causes us to ask several questions about Jesus Christ.

  1. Where did He come from?
  2. Whose son is He?
  3. How can He be the Christ and yet the Son of man?
  4. How can He be eternal and yet have an earthly life and death?
  5. How can He be sufferer and Saviour at the same time?
  6. How can He be the Lion and the Lamb?
  7. How does He live in your heart, while at the same time, He is seated at the Father's right hand on the throne in heaven?
  8. What do You think of Christ?
  9. What does He mean to You?

Application: At least three things are necessary to understand who Christ is.

  1. The Holy Ghost.
  2. The word of God.
  3. The mind to receive spiritual things.
Closing thought: Philosophers have spoken of Him, theologians have studied and taught about Him, but it's up to you and I to love and serve Him!
